Feature List

  • HTML Output
    • Portability - Its hard to find a computer without a web browser, so creating documentation using HTML allows your documentation to be used almost anywhere.
    • Progressive Enhancement - Take away CSS and JavaScript and your Doctran generated documentation will still be viewable, but where these features are available your documentation will will start using them to look more attractive.
    • Browser Support - The generated documentation can be viewed on a wide range of modern browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer 9 and above.
    • Source Viewer - Syntax highlighted source code for each code block can be chosen to be displayed on with the documentation.
  • Customization
    • Styling - The familiar technologies of CSS and JavaScript allow for style customizations to be made with ease.
    • Structure - The documentation's HTML is generated by applying XSLT 2.0 stylesheets upon an intermediary XML. This allows complete customization of the structure.
  • Projects
    • Projects - A project page is generated showing a description, important statistics and the code's authors.
    • Files - A page for each file is generated showing any modules or procedures within.
  • Navigation
    • Declaration Lists - Convenient lists of all the declarations of a given type can be viewed.
    • Navigational Menu - A foldable navigation menu allows you to navigate your whole project.
    • Breadcrumb Navigation - Know where you are in the hierarchy of your project. See the current declaration's encompassing blocks all conveniently listed.
    • Searchable - A search bar with auto-complete is viewable on each documentation page.
  • Doctran Comments
    • Descriptions - Add descriptions inside your blocks and Doctran will detect and show them within the documentation.
    • Named Descriptions - Using a named description you can conveniently describe variables and arguments that have been declared on a single line.
    • Authors - Specify authors and their affiliations within your blocks, to be shown on their documentation pages and on the project's page.
    • Mathematics - If the user of your documentation has internet access and a JavaScript enabled browser, then latex or MathML can be included directly within your descriptions.
    • Embedded Markdown or HTML - Display lists, tables, images and everything else Markdown and HTML has to offer quickly and simply in your documentation, by including these markups directly in your Doctran comments.
